How Mia Hamm and Hubby Manage Twins
February 11, 2008 by Jeanne
Super soccer mom, Mia Hamm, and her husband, Nomar Garciaparra (a baseball player), depend on teamwork to take care of their twin baby girls.
“They sleep in different rooms right now,” says Hamm, “so I have the monitor for one and he has one for the other. When my monitor goes off, I go. When his goes off, he goes.”
Nomar told People: “With two you have to [split diaper duty]. There was no manual for that. But that doesn’t bother me.”
Another item missing from the parenthood manual for twins: “They didn’t tell you how to pick up both of them at the same time,” added Nomar.
Adds Hamm, “Or who to pick up first when they are both crying. It doesn’t tell you that. You’re afraid if you go to one the other is going to be hurt.”
“There are challenges,” she says of motherhood. “In the early morning, you’re thinking ‘Man, I could really use another half hour of sleep.’ But you go in and it’s those smiles, they look at you like you’re a superhero.”
It sounds like they are really working together to be as supportive as possible. Being the parents of multiples can be really challenging so sharing the duties is super important. Good for them!
