The Passion of the Christ star James Caviezel and his wife Kerri recently became the adoptive parents of a little girl from China’s Guangzhou region. Their new daughter has a brain tumor, but James and Kerri decided to proceed with the operation because they felt she would not easily find other adoptive parents.
Remarkably, the situation is nothing new for the Caviezels. In 2007 they adopted son Bo, a Chinese boy who also had a brain tumor. His tumor was removed and he has since made a full recovery.
“It didn’t matter to me because the joy that we had from [Bo] - he’s like our own. We took the harder road. That is what faith is to me; it’s action. It’s the Samaritan. It’s not the one who says he is; it’s the one who does - and does without bringing attention to himself. I’m saying this because I want to encourage other people,” James explained to Catholic Online.
He admitted that adopting two children with tumors left him “completely terrified” but he has no regrets.
“Yes, you do feel fear, you do feel scared but you have no idea the blessings that you have coming to you if you just take a chance on faith.”
How amazing to find people so willing to take on these children, despite their difficulties. I’m sure they will find their new daughter gives them back so much love, it’ll be all worthwhile!
