Scott Baio Launches Bailey Baio Angel Foundation

Scott Baio and his wife Renee suffered a scare last fall when their daughter Bailey DeLuca received a positive result for a potentially deadly disorder known as glutaric academia type 1, or GA-1.
The worried parents received the diagnosis during an extended newborn screening test. Yet after Bailey underwent a seven-layer tissue test, doctors concluded the result was a false positive. While Scott and Renee were relieved by the news, they were shocked to find many US states do not require an in-depth version of the extended newborn screening test. This means that many children afflicted with disorders such as GA-1 waste precious treatment time.
So Scott and Renee have created the Bailey Baio Angel Foundation to increase awareness about the need for such tests in all states. The foundation launches this week. Isn’t it wonderful when celebs are so moved by their experiences that they look to help others in the same boat? Congratulations to them!
