A Baby Boy for M.I.A.

M.I.A. resisted the urge to party after the recent Grammy Awards, and it paid off. She entered the early stages of labor that morning! After a long childbirth, the “Paper Planes” singer gave birth to a baby boy on Wednesday, February 11.

“Sunday night I came home from the Grammys still in the mood to party – I coulda easily gone out but I went home instead – lucky I did! My early stage labor kicked in around 2 a.m. My baby was born Wednesday,” she recounted on her MySpace page.

“He is healthy, fine, beautiful and the most amazing thing ever on this planet – of course I’m his mum!! Me and baby are putting our tour dates for 2010 together, making mix tapes and figuring out a way to break out of the hospital! My baby boy says hi!”

He might have only appeared a few days ago, but the baby has already stoked M.I.A.’s creative fire.

“Having a baby is the most creative thing you can do. It makes you re-learn the world through a child’s eyes.”

The baby boy, whose name has not been released, is the first child for M.I.A. and her fiance Ben Brewer.

M.I.A is scheduled to perform “O Saya,” her Oscar-nominated song from Slumdog Millionaire at next Sunday’s Academy Awards. I guess we’ll have to see if she bounces back to take the stage!
