Some of the youngest American Idol fans attended the series finale with their famous parents on Wednesday night. The event, which was held at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre, saw Kris Allen triumph over season favorite Adam Lambert.

LaKisha Jones Expecting Baby Number 2

April 1, 2009 by lkatulka

LaKisha Jones made her name on American Idol as the single mom with a big voice. But some things have changed since then. She’s no longer single - she married financial advisor Larry Davis last October.

The couple are now expecting their first child together, a little brother or sister for LaKisha’s six-year-old daughter Brionne.

LaKisha expects her second child in August. But before then she’s got her solo album to think about. The CD, appropriately titled So Glad I’m Me, will drop on May 19.

“When I think about all the goodness in my life right now, every day I think ‘I’m so glad I’m me!’” she said.

It’s little wonder! It sounds like everything’s going LaKisha’s way!

Paris Bennett and Ann Nesby at Songs and Soul and Inspiration

It’s been a big day for American Idol baby announcements.

First there’s word that Season Two graduate Carmen Rasmusen is expecting her first child. Carmen and her husband expect the baby around Christmas Eve.

Season Five contestant Paris Bennett is also expecting her first child in October. Her mother Jamecia Bennett told The Star Tribune her daughter is expecting her own little girl, who she plans to call Egypt. No public information has been released about the baby’s father, who “chooses not to be in the public eye.”

Jamecia proudly exclaimed that little Egypt will make “five generations” for her family. The Bennetts are planning a baby shower to be held in August.

Congratulations to the American Idol moms-to-be!

Friends Support Jaymes Foster and Clay Aiken

June 4, 2008 by lkatulka

Jaymes Foster and Clay Aiken’s unconventional parenting arrangement has raised some eyebrows to say the least! But friends of the pair say there’s really no need for all the fuss.

“It’s not like [Clay]’s the donor and [Jaymes] is the surrogate,” said Eliza Roberts, a friend of Jaymes Foster. “These are two people who made a very loving decision to have a baby together.”

“This is a story of two people, who perhaps not typical as parents - whatever typical is - or at a stage of life typical for parent, want to have a child to love and to experience parenthood,” added her husband Eric Roberts. “These people have the best foundation of all to share such an important task, which is a strong, abiding friendship.”

Clay’s former American Idol friends have also spoken up with well wishes for the dad-to-be.

Carmen Rasmusen remembers Clay always talking of his wish to become a father, while Jennifer Hudson said she thinks Clay “will be a good parent.”

I must say, I’m all for this. After all, how many people bring kids into the world that they don’t even want? Obviously they’ve thought this through and have a lot of love for one another and a baby. In my books that’s all you really need!

Clay Aiken Prepares for Fatherhood

Clay Aiken’s going to be a daddy!

Apparently Clay’s producer and best friend Jaymes Foster is pregnant with his child via artificial insemination.

When I saw the news on TMZ I thought it sounded ridiculous. But a rep for David Foster, Jaymes’ brother, has confirmed the news.

“It is true that Clay is the father,” Bill Vigars told People. “She was artificially inseminated by Clay. She’s due in August.”

The bub will be the first child for both parents. It’s kind of unconventional, but I still wish them the best of luck!

Celebrities Inspire Hot Baby Names

May 11, 2008 by lkatulka

The most popular American baby names of 2007 are in! The usual suspects Emily and Jacob came out on top for a second year, but the biggest movers are a little more interesting. These hot new names all point to continued celebrity obsession.

Before last year Miley didn’t even make the list. Now thanks to the popularity of Hannah Montana and its star Miley Cyrus, the name’s at number 278, making it the most popular new name.

It’s common for people to name their babies after their favorite stars, but a little more unusual for a celebrity baby name to become popular. That’s exactly what’s happened with Gwen Stefani’s son Kingston though: the name is the second biggest mover on the list! The Baby Name Wizard says Kingston’s appeal is threefold: “a place name, ending in the uber-popular letter n, with the ultimate power nickname of King.”

Mylee is the third hottest mover on the baby name list. Mylie is at number 24. Are we noticing a trend?

Jordin takes the number four spot, propelled by the success of American Idol winner Jordin Sparks. While Jordin’s sunny nature obviously has something to do with it, there’s a little more to it. Jordin’s unique spelling of Jordan gave parents a feminine version of this unisex name. In fact, Jordan with an a was less popular this year, while more parents of boys opted for this spelling.

Number five on the list is another name made popular through the power of reality TV: Jaslene. Jaslene Gonzalez was the first Peurto Rican beauty to take out the America’s Next Top Model crown, and she inspired many namesakes in the process.

Miley, Kingston, and Jordin all seem to have a classic appeal to them despite their recent popularity. But I can’t help thinking that Jaslene may not sound like such a good idea when those babies grow up! What do you think?
