Matthew McConaughey Rejects Family Tradition of Weird Baby Names
April 18, 2009 by lkatulka

Camila Alves’ epic labor to give birth to son Levi is legendary now, but don’t think her partner Matthew McConaughey was sitting idly by. He was in charge of the playlist!
The actor told Elle that Camila requested tribal tunes, but the ones he picked weren’t always to her liking!
“She was also really quick to say, ‘Skip that f–kin’ song!’ So here I was blazing through this playlist while she’s nodding her head yay or nay, and I’m like, ‘This next song better have that groove or I’m going to have to run across the bed and change it,’” he admitted.
There was some speculation about unusual name choices, but Matthew said he “wouldn’t dare compete” with his brother Rooster, who infamously named his son Miller Lyte.
“Like calling [our baby] Jose Cuervo?” jokes Matthew. “[Rooster's] got a daughter coming, and I think her name is going to be Margarita. I’m serious.”
Oh I pity those poor children! Matthew sounds like a much more sensible daddy!

Nas and Kelis Stumped By Baby Names
April 18, 2009 by lkatulka

The birth of Nas and Kelis’ first child together is drawing ever closer, yet they’re still struggling to decide on a name for the baby boy.
“Yeah, [we are deciding between] a few baby names,” Nas said. “It’s kinda hard.”
It’s so hard in fact that the rapper might just let his fans decide!
“I’ve been thinking about kinda putting something online: ‘Choose his name.’ You get a couple stacks for that. We take care of you for that. You win something real. But we’re thinking now.”
Nas says his wife, who is due this summer, is “great, man. She’s doing good.”
This will be Kelis’ first child. Nas is also dad to a 15-year-old daughter, Destiny, from a previous relationship.

Jamie Oliver Works For His Daughters
January 18, 2009 by lkatulka
Jamie Oliver might be one of the world’s hottest celebrity chefs, but in his own home he takes a backseat to the ladies in his life. He says pregnant wife Jools, six-year-old Poppy, and five-year-old Daisy are clearly in charge!
“The wife is getting more and more control of the house and the two girls have got it all sewn up,” Jamie said, noting that “I work for them now. Did you know that? I work for Poppy and Daisy Oliver.”
Part of that could be because the girls think Jamie’s work is “very insignificant!”
“They are completely unimpressed by what I do. As they get older they are getting cheekier and funnier.”
It remains to be seen whether Jamie has another “boss” when his third child arrives in April. After Poppy Honey and Daisy Boo, I can’t wait to see what they call this one! Jamie assures us it’s all out of his hands.
“Jools has got the names all sussed and she won’t even tell me. She’ll probably call it something like Sunshine or Dewdrop.”
Just as she did with her last pregnancy, Jools is experiencing “a lot of strange cravings. At the moment she is on a lot of everything. I can’t remember seeing her in the past week without something in her hand.”
One thing she won’t try is the placenta recipe Jamie hoped to concoct after the birth! A dejected Jamie was heartbroken when he heard “they have to take it and do tests on it.”
“I was going to do a chicken liver parfait with placenta, not liver. I was going to get all my mates round to wet the baby’s head and I wasn’t going to tell them - then show them a DVD of me making it afterwards. But Jools wouldn’t let me, she is too sensible.”
It sounds like it’s a good thing Jools is around to rein her hubby in!

Keri Russell Weighs in on Unusual Baby Names
January 5, 2009 by lkatulka
From Harlow to Bronx, 2008 had its share of unique celebrity baby names. Keri Russell believes the “unusual life” led by many stars is to blame for the trend.
“I mean … they tend to be creative people, and maybe people are more creative with their names, too,” she explained. “Or [they] feel like they don’t have to be so confined to tradition because it’s such an nontraditional line of work.”
Keri, mom to an unusually named son River, said while her choice might not appeal to everyone it makes sense to her family.
“It was a name we like, and my husband [Shane Deary] grew up on Martha’s Vineyard. [There were] a lot of sort of unusual hippie names, so we thought we could get away with it.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of these creative names, or do you prefer the classics?

Natalie Hanson Reveals Story Behind Baby’s Name
December 25, 2008 by lkatulka
When Taylor and Natalie Hanson named their fourth child Viggo Moriah, it raised a few eyebrows. Now Natalie has spilled the beans on her newborn son’s unusual name.
She said she searched through records on ancestry.com when she found Viggo, a Scandinavian name meaning “war.”
“It has a great sound and matches our last name and we just loved it,” says Natalie.
Viggo’s middle name, Moriah, was Taylor’s choice. The Hanson singer was inspired by the Bible story of Abraham’s sacrifice of Isaac, which took place on Mount Moriah. There is definitely no celebrity connections, despite what som people think!
“People have been asking us, ‘Oh, like Mariah Carey?,’ and we didn’t even think of that,” says the new mom. “We were thinking of other Biblical names like Josiah and Jeremiah that to us sounded so masculine.”
Viggo’s three older siblings, Jordan Ezra, 6; Penelope Anne, 3 ½; and River Samuel, 2, are having some troubles with their baby brother’s name though! They apparently pronounce it “Biggo!”
“It’s so cute, we always make them say it.”
Natalie says she’s a name fan, but she still feels a little pressure to choose just the right one. And it doesn’t come from the public!
“The pressure is worse from my mom and the in-laws,” she laughed. “But once they see the baby, he’s so precious, they say he looks like a Viggo.”

Angie Harmon Suffers Through Pregnancy Number 3
December 14, 2008 by lkatulka
They say third time lucky, but that hasn’t been the case for Angie Harmon. Her previous pregnancies have been “super easy,” but this time around Angie’s suffered severe morning sickness and a torn disc!
Thank goodness Angie has a wonderful husband in Jason Sehorn who stepped up to look after their children, five-year-old Finley and three-year-old Grace. Angie said Jason quickly adjusted to “taking care of the kids and getting them to school and doing the lunches and cooking dinner.”
Angie said that through the ordeal she’s been “this wretched thing in the bedroom that can’t come downstairs,” while Jason has become known as “the greatest husband on the planet.”
With the end of Angie’s pregnancy approaching, she says she’s completely prepared. Now she knows the sex of the baby she’s pored through books to ensure her unique name hasn’t been taken!
“I look through the baby-name books to make sure the name I’m picking is not in there. I just don’t want everyone to have it!”
I don’t know about you, but I always worry when celebs aim for a unique name. Fingers crossed this poor kid doesn’t end up with something awful!
Alyson Hannigan’s Pregnancy Cravings and Baby Name Game
November 18, 2008 by lkatulka
Now that she’s in her second trimester, Alyson Hannigan’s cravings are in full swing. Alexis Denisof says he has to supply a steady stream of pickles, but they’ve got to be just the right ones.
“If I bring the wrong ones home, she won’t touch ‘em. It has to be the exact right ones. They’re the sweet, kosher pickles. They can’t be the pepper, garlic, or whatever — it has to be the right one,” he insisted.
Alexis also let slip that Alyson fibbed to us recently – they know the gender of their unborn baby after all!
“We know the gender, but I don’t think I’m allowed to say. Alyson didn’t give a clearance,” says Alexis.
Alyson and Alexis are already thinking baby names, and have devised a pretty clever system. They both make lists, swap the suggestions, then “start eliminating names from each other’s lists” in the hope of eventually compiling a “master list.” A couple of names that haven’t made the cut are Alyson’s suggestion of Bruce, and Alexis’ pick of Dennis!
Alexis shared that his wife is also in nesting mode.
“As soon as she gets a minute off, she wants to go to a baby store and fiddle with the clothes and look at the cribs. It’s been really fun! Slowly we are collecting onesies!”
The couple will welcome their first child in spring.
