Is Cate Blanchett Pregnant?

February 13, 2009 by lkatulka

Is Cate Blanchett expecting her fourth child? That’s the rumor doing the rounds after her husband Andrew Upton was spotted in the obstetrics ward of Sydney’s Prince of Wales private hospital on Wednesday.

Cate has mentioned that she’s open to a little brother or sister for her sons Dashiell, 7, Roman, 4, and little Ignatius, 10 months. So is one on the way? I guess we’ll have to wait and see!

Cate Blanchett Not Ready To Give Up on More Kids

January 8, 2009 by lkatulka

Cate Blanchett is already mom to seven-year-old Dashiell, four-year-old Roman, and eight-month-old Ignatius, but she’s reluctant to “close those doors” on future pregnancies!

Perhaps she just wants to try again to make one which looks like her! Apparently all the boys take after their father Andrew Upton.

“They all look like Andrew. To say he has dominant genes would be an understatement,” she joked.

Right now Cate’s just enjoying balancing her career with motherhood. Right now that includes the couple’s roles as creative directors of the Sydney Theatre Company, where Cate will soon star in War of the Roses.

“Fortunately the kids can come into the theater; it’s very child-friendly,” she says.

Motherhood means life can change in the blink of an eye, but the Aussie actress insists she doesn’t “mind the chaos.”

“As your life becomes more populated with little people, you have to adapt, but I’ve never been frightened of change.”

Australia 2020 Summit: Day 1

Academy Award winning actress Cate Blanchett has the cred to act in virtually any film she likes, but her role as a wife to Andrew Upton and mother to Dashiell John, 7, Roman Robert, 4 ½, and Ignatius Martin, 8 months comes first.

“You can pick and choose as much as a mother can pick and choose,” she told The Star. “I have three kids, two of them are in school, and my husband and I are running a theater company … I have a few months off a year, and films can’t always wait.”

Not that she reminds, even though she admits all her kids were accidents!

“They’ve all been surprises. We didn’t get married to have children. So when they’ve popped along it’s been ‘whoops!’ but it’s been great.”

It’s been just 10 weeks since Cate Blanchett popped out little Ignatius “Iggy” Martin, but it sounds like she’s ready for another one!

Cate told The Herald that “having kids is very addictive, if you can, if you’re able to and it’s your choice and you’ve got a supportive relationship.”

She’s certainly got that with husband Andrew Upton. They are also parents to six-year-old Dashiell John and four-year-old Roman Robert, but could there be more to come? Guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

Cate Blanchett and IgnatiusHe might be just six weeks old, but Ignatius Upton is already quite the party animal! He made his debut at Australia 2020 Summit in Canberra, he rubbed shoulders with the rich and famous at the Cannes Film Festival, and last night he was spotted at a glamorous dinner for the Sydney Theatre Company.

Mom and Dad Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton are the company’s creative directors. Cate donned a classic black dress as she carried little Iggy into the annual Armani fundraising dinner just before 7 pm. Her husband Andrew didn’t seem to mind carrying their designer baby bag. We all see those snaps of celebs hitting the town just weeks after giving birth. It’s so refreshing to see a couple who’d rather pass on the babysitter and spend the time with their newborn. And what a wonderful baby he must be to happily sit through a formal dinner!

Little Ignatius Upton and mom Cate Blanchett headed home from hospital yesterday after a three-day stay.

The new mom and bub left North Sydney’s Mater Hospital yesterday afternoon with Cate’s husband Andrew Upton and their two young boys, Dashiell and Roman, in tow.

Apparently the new big brothers made a sign which read “Welcome home Mum and Iggy,” which they stuck to the window of their Hunters Hill home.

Awww, Cate must feel so loved! That’s just adorable!

Cate Blanchett To Attend Ideas Summit

April 15, 2008 by lkatulka

New mom Cate Blanchett has only just delivered her third son Ignatius Martin, but she’s still planning to attend this weekend’s Australia 2020 ideas summit in Canberra.

Cate was chosen months ago to co-chair the Creative Australia panel with arts minister Peter Garrett. She plans to honor this role, but has asked author Julianne Schultz to join her as an additional co-chair.

“I want to extend my best wishes to Ms Blanchett and her family and thank her for her contribution to the Australia 2020 Summit thus far,” Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said in a statement.

“Ms Blanchett has indicated that she will continue to participate in the 2020 summit in her role as a co-chair of the creative Australia panel and has asked that Dr Schultz also be added as an additional co-chair on this panel.”

Wow! Most new moms are struggling to do anything but care for their newborn, but Cate’s already back to work! She might just be superwoman!

A Baby Boy for Cate Blanchett

April 14, 2008 by lkatulka

Australian film darling Cate Blanchett has given birth to her third son. Ignatius Martin Upton was born yesterday in Sydney. He weighed in at almost eight pounds.

“All are well and very happy,” said Tim McKeough, the media relations manager at the Sydney Theatre Company. Cate and her husband Andrew Upton are the company’s artistic directors.

I’m sure Cate and Andrew’s other sons Dashiell and Roman will love having another brother to play with. Cate and Andrew are some of the most genuine celebs around, and I am so happy for them!
