June 2, 2009 by lkatulka

Scott Baio and his wife Renee raised more than $16,000 yesterday for their Bailey Baio Foundation, just by selling off their hand-me-downs!
The Celebrity Baby yard Sale featured toys and clothes enjoyed by celebrity offspring, plus some new goodies donated by Mabel’s Labels, Ju-Ju-Be, BuckleyBoo, and main sponsor Stride Rite. Some of the celebrities to donate their preloved goodies included Dennis Quaid, Kristy Swanson, and Dancing with the Stars host Samantha Harris.
“I thought that a celebrity baby yard sale was be the perfect way to raise money,” explained Renee Baio. “Being married to a celebrity, you get to see how much stuff you actually get for their kids. So it seemed a natural to marry the two.”
The couple started the Bailey Baio Foundation to promote newborn screening and help families with children suffering metabolic disorders. They were inspired to start the foundation after their 19-month-old daughter Bailey tested positive for a potentially fatal metabolic disorder. Thankfully, she turned out to be healthy.
To buy leftover items and get more information about an eBay store that will feature other items next month, visit the Bailey Baio Foundation website.

Maggie Gyllenhaal Supports Fisher-Price’s Wildlife Efforts
January 28, 2009 by lkatulka

Maggie Gyllenhaal teamed up with Fisher-Price to unveil the company’s new Precious Planet range of baby toys and goodies yesterday. To coincide with the launch, the company announced they will donate $250,000 to the Wildlife Conservation Society’s efforts to save wildlife and natural habitats.
“Fisher-Price is such a big part of everyone’s childhood and I am so happy to join forces with them in presenting this generous donation in support of the Wildlife Conservation Society,” Maggie said at the launch, which was held at Central Park Zoo’s Amphibian Room.
“I remember having one of those Fisher-Price tape players, listening to Cyndi Lauper, walking around my neighborhood. I think especially in New York City, in Brooklyn where I live, it’s important to encourage children to learn about and be a part of nature. It’s difficult to find that in the city. I know from my own childhood that my connection with nature has changed the way I look at the world. I think it’s important to show them how we can and how we must co-exist. They are learning to respect the planet.”
No doubt Maggie’s daughter, two-year-old Ramona, has some Fisher-Price toys in her own collection!

Alison Sweeney Gives Away Shower Gifts
November 13, 2008 by lkatulka

The Biggest Loser host Alison Sweeney celebrated her baby shower at Los Angeles’ Treehouse Social Club on November 2.
The guests, including many of Alison’s Days of Our Lives costars, snacked on Sunflower Baking cookies and Crumbs cupcakes, and sipped on Bloom Tea and Izze drinks.
The second-time mom raked in the gifts, but there was a twist. She donated them all to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital!
“It seemed the perfect opportunity to do something good and have a good time, too,” Alison told Life & Style.
The event was hosted by the Hot Moms Club, sponsored by BabyPlus and Huggies, and decked out by decorator Jennifer Sibranti.
Alison and her husband David Sanoy expect a little sister for three-year-old son Benjamin on January 20.
While Alison loves having a little boy, she’s understandably excited about being mom to a girl this time around!
“I love decorating her room with all this great girlie stuff,” she said. “I’ll be honest, I’m very excited about buying a princess dress. And the lip gloss and nail polish - it’s going to be so cute!”
Unusual names like Honor and Apple are all the rage with celebrities, but don’t expect anything so outrageous from Alison.
“We’re very traditional,” she said. “We’re not at all interested in artsy, creative, trendy names.”
