Vanessa Williams and son Devin attend Press Conference for All state Parent-Teen Driving Contract

Yesterday Vanessa Williams and her 15-year-old son Devin helped launch Allstate’s national Home for the Holidays teen safe driving campaign in New York City. The pair signed an Allstate Parent-Teen Driving Contract. Their contract lays out expectations for smart driving decisions, and the consequences if those expectations are not met.

“As a mother of two older daughters [Melanie, 21, and Jillian, 19], I’ve given them the car keys and worried whether they would make it home safe,” said Vanessa Williams.

“The fact is that our teens are more likely to die in a car crash than from anything else, so having the safe driving talk with your teen is just as important as talking about drugs and sex. As the holidays arrive, parents and teens should use the Allstate Parent-Teen Driving Contract as way to begin a conversation that can be a gift of life.”

Vanessa Williams has made her kids proud by receiving her diploma in musical theater studies from Syracuse University.

The Ugly Betty star left the college in 1983 to fulfill her Miss America duties, and returned to take part in last Saturday’s commencement ceremony. Her 15-year-old Devin and 18-year-old Jillian were there to see their mom’s proud moment.

While Vanessa didn’t complete the course, she was given extra credit for her work in the entertainment industry. There’s nothing like a little on the job training right?

“She loves Syracuse so much, so I’m just happy to see her finally graduate,” Jillian told Capital News 9.

“I was just really proud of my mom and its great to see her up there in a cap and gown,” added Devin.

Congratulations Vanessa!
