Daughter on the way for Annika Sorenstam
June 8, 2009 by lkatulka
Baby-on-the-way for Annika Sorenstam and husband Mike McGee is a girl! The golfing great announced the happy news via her blog.
“Mike and I are happy to announce that we are going to have a little girl. To use golf terms, we just ‘made the turn’ from a timing standpoint and are very excited that everything looks good so far.”
In another post, Mike shared the joy the couple feel about joining team pink.
“We are really excited about her and the fun that lies ahead,” he wrote. “I think it’s almost fitting with everything Annika has done for women’s sports and the inspiration she has given millions of little girls!”
Annika says she’s keeping her pregnancy weight in check with light exercise, a far cry from the work she put in on the golfing circuit!
“I think I am going to the pool to swim some laps,” she wrote. “I have changed my workout routine since life on tour, especially being pregnant as I feel a little limited with regards to what I can and can’t do. However, swimming has no impact and I don’t feel the extra weight around my belly.”
It sounds like a sensible choice! Annika and Mike expect their first child in fall.

Jessica Alba Fights Postbaby Fat
May 5, 2009 by lkatulka

She might look trim, taut and terrific now, but Jessica Alba insists her baby weight didn’t just melt away. In fact, after giving birth to her daughter Honor Marie Warren she actually put on a few pounds!
Determined to reclaim her slender figure, Jessica worked out twice a day and ate “really healthy” for eight weeks straight.
“It wasn’t fun,” she adds.
Thankfully now 10-month-old Honor keeps Jess so busy she can kiss the gym goodbye.
“I don’t really have time to work out so much anymore. Running after my daughter and holding her. She’s heavy, so that really helps with the old arm tone.”
Life with a newborn can be stressful, but Jess urges all moms to go easy on themselves and ”leave room for mistakes.”
“Nothing’s going to be the way you want it to be …[or] exactly how you planned it.”
Truer words were never spoken!

Jeri Ryan Mourns End of Maternity Leave
April 5, 2009 by lkatulka
No matter how long you take, maternity leave never feels long enough. Just ask Jeri Ryan! She took a year off work to be at home with her daughter Gisele Lynn, but now she doesn’t want to go back!
The actress has headed back to work for a role in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Playing “ball-busting attorney Parice Larue is a great opportunity for the actress, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t tears!
“I cried,” the 41-year-old freely admitted to People. “It was especially hard since I’ve been with her nonstop since she was born.”
It sounds like Jeri’s time as a stay-at-home mom couldn’t have been more perfect.
“Gisele loves to be outdoors, and we garden together,” said the actress, who grows broccoli, cabbage and carrots. “She’s a great eater. Any green vegetable, she’ll go to town on. She has a very adventurous palate.”
After gaining 28 pounds during pregnancy, Jeri also used her time off to get back into shape.
“It took me 10 months to get back to normal,” says the actress, who does Pilates three times a week. “It was a little frustrating, but I realize it’s harder to take the weight off when you’re 40.”
Jeri will reprise her SVU role this fall, and hopes to bring the whole family to New York for the trip.
“I loved my year off,” says Jeri, who is married to chef Christopher Emé and has a 14-year-old son Alex, from a previous relationship.
“I milked [my maternity leave] for as long as anyone could milk it!” she said. “Now it’s time to go back to work.”

Mary Lynn Rajskub Enjoying Valentine’s Milestones
March 11, 2009 by lkatulka
Mary Lynn Rajskub is looking fabulous these days, but she admits that her exercise routine is a little sporadic these days. Being a mom to seven-month-old Valentine Anthony wears her out, but when she has the energy she likes to mix weight training with walking and yoga.
“I’ve been doing that on and off just when I feel like it,” she said on the red carpet of her latest film Sunshine Cleaning in Los Angeles on Monday.
Mary Lynn shared that her little boy is also growing up fast!
“He’s getting a mouthful of teeth and he’s almost walking, which is pretty early. He’s just on the move. He’s got a lot to do, standing and pulling himself up, speaking full sentences, reading the dictionary in his spare time.”
Mary Lynn and partner Matthew Rolph have no plans to make Valentine a big brother at this stage. Instead they prefer to ”focus on this one for now.”
As for marriage, Mary Lynn says that’s a little up in the air too.
“We’re just taking it moment by moment,” she explains. “But it wouldn’t be a bad thing, I don’t think.”
Sunshine Cleaning is in select American theaters Friday. It opens nationwide March 27th.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Healthy Hiking Habit
February 28, 2009 by lkatulka
Julia Louis-Dreyfus is on a fitness kick, and she’s bringing her “two growing boys” Henry, 16, and Charles, 11, along for the ride!
Julia told Shape magazine that she’s careful to prepare healthy dishes for her sons, adding that she’s “concerned about what goes in their bodies.”
But it’s not all about the fuel. Julia and her family regularly take nature walks, although the boys aren’t always willing participants! She doesn’t blame them though, because she was never a fan of nature walks when she was a girl.
“I would recoil because I hated doing that kind of thing.”
What a difference a few years makes. Now the 48-year-old actress loves traversing the trails of her local parks.
“There’s something about the ritual of moving forward along a trail, pausing every now and then to look at the view or smell a flower,” she explained. “Now, when I mention hiking to my own kids, they’re like, ‘Ugh!’”
But Julia hasn’t lost hope that her enthusiasm may rub off on her boys!
“I’m hoping for a residual effect with them though, and that by the time they’re my age, they’ll love going on nature walks as much as I do.”
Henry and Charles are Julia’s boys with her husband Brad Hall.

Mariska Hargitay Shares Yummy Mummy Body Secrets
October 28, 2008 by lkatulka
She only became a mother two years ago, but already Mariska Hargitay can’t imagine life without her son August. The little boy who she says is “all light” brings the same happiness to his famous mother’s life.
“You look at babies and they’re full of joy. It’s a pure state, a place that can inform every part of your life. What is life without it,” she mused in a recent interview with SELF magazine.
Mariska always looks gorgeous, but she insists it was a desire to keep up with her son - not vanity - that inspired her to shed the baby weight.
“It’s not about being fat or thin. I’m a full-figured woman. It’s about how am I going to keep up my energy,” she explained.
So how does she do it? For the most part she avoids “sugar, yeast, and wine.” The latter is a weakness Mariska calls her “mack truck,” yet she knows she could never “give up wine for life.”
“Everything in moderation,” is Mariska’s philosophy, and it seems to be working for her!
“If I’m supporting myself, I’m supporting my kid. If I’m happy and healthy, I can be a better wife and mom, I can do a better job.”
But diet isn’t the only key to Mariska’s fantastic bod. She also enjoys 30-minute jogs an weekend sessions with a personal trainer while Law & Order: SVU is on hiatus.
She might be 44, but Mariska hasn’t ruled out expanding her family with husband Peter Hermann.
“It’s hard. I think a lot of it is up to God and nature and we’ll see what happens,” said Mariska, adding that she’d “definitely … love to” adopt one day.
I’m sure August would love a little brother or sister too!
Ali Landry Wants Moms to Honor Their Bodies
October 2, 2008 by lkatulka
Ali Landry wants new moms to stop fretting about their postpartum bodies! While the actress recommends eating healthy meals and drinking lots of water to get the energy needed to nurse and take care of a baby, she believes losing weight shouldn’t be the focus.
“You have just gone through the most miraculous experience and you really need to honor your body,” Ali says.
But Ali admitted she did have a little help to slim down after delivering her 14-mont-old daughter Estela Ines.
“I had meals delivered by a company called Chefs Diet so I could make sure that I was getting balanced meals with enough calories to sustain my milk production,” Ali explains. “Also, it was awhile before I started working out again, so I was really depending on my diet solely to gradually bring my weight down.”
But now she’s back to her regular exercise routine, Ali couldn’t be happier.
“I love the way it makes me feel after a good workout or healthy meal. I am a happier person when I take care of myself.”
Estela may not be the last baby for Ali and her husband Alejandro Gomez Monteverde either!
“I am thinking that we go one at a time, and of course he wants a soccer team. But absolutely, more children would definitely be a blessing.”
Jennifer Lopez Trains for Triathlon
August 17, 2008 by lkatulka
Jennifer Lopez is one busy lady! In between looking after five-month-old twins Max David and Emme Maribel she’s a singer, actress, producer, fashion designer, and she’s poised to launch her own charitable foundation. But that’s not all. She’s also training to complete a triathlon!
“It’s important to me to set examples for them. I want to lead with my life. I want to say, ‘You should do this because I’ve done it, and I know it makes you a better person and it makes you feel great and sleep better and be happier,’” she told Self magazine.
Jen’s found her new fitness regime is great for shedding her baby weight. “Working out and getting back into shape isn’t exciting to me,” she admits “but training for a triathlon is!”
So far has Jen has shed half of her baby weight but she still has 15 to 18 pounds to lose.
“On occasional days, 20!,” the singer says. “My body’s different, although in a weird way, it feels normal.”
Wow - I struggle to do that level of exercise and I’m not running around after two little ones! Congratulations to her!
Stars Spill Their Exercise Secrets

Have you ever wondered how those stars get rid of their baby bodies so quickly? This week’s People magazine spills the beans about how the celebs get red-carpet ready! It sounds like a lot of hard work to me!
Mel B got into shape for her Dancing with the Stars gig with cardio-sessions twice a day! These days she’s taking it a little easier, with hour long workouts to her favorite exercise videos daily.
Jennifer Lopez takes her body seriously, and her exercise routine shows it! She trains up to six times a week with 35-minute runs, swimming, and 50-minute bike rides. Sounds like this pop star could become a triathlete!
Jaime Pressly told People that “keeping her butt firm is definitely a focus!” She does it by training up to two hours every day.
Their bodies are definitely inspiring, but without those nannies I’m not sure how you could fit all that exercise in!
Denise Richards Promotes Healthy Body Image
It seems Hollywood is obsessed with weight, but it’s an attitude that Denise Richards will never bring home. The gorgeous star told Shape magazine she wants her daughters Sam and Lola to grow up with a positive body image.
“I’ll never talk about weight around them,” she said. “And they’ll never hear me say, ‘Mommy’s feeling fat today.’ That kind of attitude just makes young girls grow up to be dissatisfied with their bodies.”
Instead of obsessing about a few extra pounds Denise models positive behavior like good nutrition and exercise.
“I exercise almost every day. The girls usually play in the workout room with me, so they’re learning by example.”
It’s so refreshing to hear a star with such a healthy attitude to their body. I’m sure her girls will benefit from such a positive upbringing!
