Fatherhood Inspires Joel Madden
June 26, 2009 by lkatulka

It doesn’t fit that tough punk image, but it’s only natural that Joel Madden would be feel inspired to write about fatherhood for Good Charlotte’s fifth album. After all, he’s dad to 17-month-old Harlow, and he’s got another one on the way with girlfriend Nicole Richie!
“Fatherhood has a profound affect on just who you are,” he told People magazine. “It definitely gives you a whole new world to write about.”
But fatherhood hasn’t just influenced the way Joel writes songs; it’s affected all aspects of his life.
“You really can’t plan anything, you don’t know anything,” he explained. “You just have to take it as it comes.”
It’s that attitude that’s helped Joel survive fatherhood without too much stress.
“I mean, we’re not the first people to have babies so you’re going to be alright no matter what,” he said. “You have to have your own experience and learn as you go. Kids are very resilient and you just have to take it a day at a time.”
Joel says baby-on-the-way will be a delivery surprise, which is just another example of Joel taking things as they come I suppose!

Diego Luna Gaga for Jeronimo
May 16, 2009 by lkatulka
Diego Luna was thrilled when his wife Camila Sodi fell pregnant, but he could never have anticipated the love he’d feel for his first son Jeronimo.
“It’s a love that people tell you about. You read about it. You think you know what it is. You think you know how it’s going to feel,” he says in the newest issue of Parade.
“And then, phew, when it happens, you realize there’s no way to predict this. It’s so unique, so perfect.”
The actor says fatherhood is “biggest change you go through in life … at least that I’ve gone through in life.”
He says that he’s not sure what the future will bring, but right now he’s just enjoying the “amazing” love for his son as he looks to the future.
“It’s a very special thing that now you’re going to have forever.”
Diego is busy promoting his new film Rudo y Cursi, but his son is never far from his thoughts!
“I have a little spit up on my shoulder or a spot of carrot puree on my pants. There’s toys everywhere. So he’s with me everywhere.”
Rudo y Cursi is showing in selected theaters.

Ziggy Marley Not “Frazzled” By Five Kids
May 14, 2009 by lkatulka

Life must be busy for father-of-five Ziggy Marley. But just like his laidback reggae tunes, the son of the legendary Bob Marley insists he’s cool as a cucumber.
“My wife [Orly] is the frazzled one; I’m not the frazzled one,” he told Cookie magazine.
But despite being the “loose one,” he does get riled up when it comes to discipline.
“I’m the good cop and the bad cop,” he explains, adding that the couple have decided to share the same parenting responsibilities. ”I’m versatile,” Ziggy notes.
One area where he does let things slide is food. While Ziggy is a vegetarian, and would prefer his kids were too, they tend to ask meat. He says he’s “picky” about this, but will oblige on occasion.
“I’m kind of cool - I let them eat some meat,” he revealed. “It’s all good.”
While the kids can get away with a little meat, Ziggy is stricter about respect. He says the most important piece of advice his father gave him was ”listen to your daddy,” and he’s determined to teach that same lesson to his brood.
“It’s very important that we instill some respect for the parents. In America especially, the kids are unruly, screaming at mommy and daddy, running the show. Let kids know we guide them. When kids question me, ‘Why?’ [I tell them that] it’s the rule because I say so.”
Ziggy also limits his children’s TV time, preferring instead to keep them busy with martial arts lessons and park playdates.
“When it’s warm out, we find scrap pieces of wood and build things,” he explained. “It’s kind of like an adventure outside. We have fun with whatever.”
Ziggy clearly loves being a dad. In fact, he wishes he could ”keep on having” children! It’s particularly rewarding for him to watch each child develop their own personality.
“Even though they’re children, they have their identities,” he noted. “They have good hearts and they’ve loving.
“Children are not a burden. ‘Oh, I wish I had done this that I can’t do now.’ I don’t think like that. Children are wonderful and they add to my whole life. I don’t think about what I could have done or think backwards or think about what-ifs. I move ahead, and there isn’t anything I wish I [had or] hadn’t done.”
Ziggy is dad to Daniel, 19, Justice, 17, Zuri, 13, Judah Victoria, 4, and Gideon Robert Nesta, 2. His first children’s reggae album, Family Time, is available now.
Peter Facinelli Learns to Multitask
March 20, 2009 by lkatulka
Peter Facinelli has experienced a career revival since starring in the hit film Twilight. He’s about to start shooting the vampire movie’s sequel New Moon, and he’s also got a part in the new series Nurse Jackie.
This newfound popularity has the dad of three honing his multitasking skills!
“I’m at my daughter’s soccer field with one foot on the ball and I’m on my cellphone talking to you,” he told a reporter for PopStar.
“It’s a little bit of a balance but I find time for both. I’m a big believer in quality with the family and doing stuff with them. Sometimes I might be away for a couple of weeks but when I do come home I am there for concentrated periods of time and we do some great things together.”
Peter Facinelli and his wife Jennie Garth are parents to three daughters: Luca, 11, Lila, 6, and Fiona, 2.

The Game Gives Boys the Childhood He Never Had
March 15, 2009 by lkatulka
The Game had a tough childhood growing up in a gang-infested neighborhood before becoming a foster child. While he says the horrors he lived are too tough to speak about he said he always knew that “if I ever had a child, I would raise my family differently.”
Now that he’s a father to sons Harlem Caron, 5 ½, and King Justice, 22 months, The Game says that’s “just what he’s going to do.”
With two little ones around, the rapper says he’s enjoying the chance to act a little silly, explaining that he “lives my childhood through my children.”
“If I would have had a wonderful childhood, it would have been the same way. I understand fatherhood. I know that when you have a child, you accept the responsibility whether you like it or not; it’s just what it is. If you’re going to have children, you have to take care of your kids. Me, I’m a father figure. I’m great at displaying affection for my children, and I show them how much I love them all the time.”
How wonderful that he’s been able to rise up and give his children the kind of life he never had!

Benji Madden Ready to be an Uncle Again
March 3, 2009 by lkatulka
Benji Madden says he’s relishing being an uncle again, but don’t expect him to follow in his brother Joel’s footsteps any time soon.
Speaking at the World Poker Tour Celebrity Invitational in California, Benji said he’s had some time to get used to the news as he heard it first!
“You have to wait before you can tell people,” he explained. “I found out a little bit earlier. We’re twin brothers so we share everything.”
Benji said he hopes Joel and his partner Nicole Richie have a big family because “they’re the best parents he’s ever seen.”
With Joel’s 13-month-old daughter Harlow and guitarist Billy Martin’s five-week-old son Dreavyn Kingslee, Benji says the family vibe in our band is really strong right now and we’re all really enjoying that.”
But he’s not enjoying it enough to trade in his bachelor ways just yet.
“I’m the last single guy in the band so I get to dive into the music a little more, which I love. My life is great right now. It’s wonderful.”
But that doesn’t mean he’s closing the door on fatherhood altogether.
“I’m great with kids and I absolutely want kids when the time is right and I have the right partner,” he said. “I’ll bring them on tour. They’ll be little rock ‘n’ roll kids.”
I don’t doubt it! At least they’ll have company with the other Good Charlotte tots!

“It’s changed my life and everything that falls under that umbrella,” he admitted.
And that includes his career. Once a frequent face on the big screen, Vin’s now choosing his projects a little more carefully in an attempt to stay close to home.

Brandon Flowers Touched by Fatherhood
February 15, 2009 by lkatulka
The Killer’s Brandon Flowers was thrilled when he heard his wife Tana was expecting their first child, but it didn’t really hit him until son Ammon was born 19 months ago.
“It was wonderful attending the birth,” he said. “They say a man doesn’t become a father until the baby is born, whereas a woman is a mother as soon as she’s pregnant. I guess that is true.”
But don’t think Brandon wasn’t supportive during the pregnancy!
“I was sympathetic to my wife and excited about having a baby, but it didn’t hit me until he was born. That was the greatest day of my life.”
It can be difficult to find time for romance once children come along, but Brandon does his best to pamper his wife.
“I know the right time to send flowers. Sometimes it’s not on the calendar and it’s not about Valentine’s Day - it’s knowing when to do it.” He also added that a romantic evening is “all about getting the baby to bed early. That’s when the romance begins.”
Remember that tip fellas!

Gerard Way “Very Excited” About Fatherhood
February 8, 2009 by lkatulka
My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way is remaining tight-lipped about his wife Lindsey “Lyn-Z” Ballato’s pregnancy. He told Kerrang! that it’s “not because it’s so personal that I’m not gonna comment upon it.” Instead, the dad-to-be just isn’t quite sure what to say! He added that he’s “very excited” about impending fatherhood, but that he doesn’t “know how to begin to even start talking about something like that!”
The rocker admitted that the pregnancy came out of the blue, adding that the couple hadn’t “ever thought about having a kid … but then I also didn’t expect to meet Lindsey, and when I met her I knew she’d be the one person I could have a kid with.”
This will be the couple’s first child and the first baby My Chemical Romance baby!
“It wasn’t like it was as big a deal to people as I thought it might have been: like when I told Ray [Toro, My Chemical Romance guitarist] and told the guys everyone was really psyched but it wasn’t like, ‘Oh my God!’ Everyone was just really genuinely excited for us. It’s totally crazy to be the first one in the band [to become a father].”
Gerard and Lindsay don’t know the baby’s gender, “but we know the baby is healthy and it’s growing great.” And really, that’s all that matters!
