Not Just Country for Yearwood-Brooks Family

May 17, 2009 by lkatulka

With Garth Brooks for a dad and Trisha Yearwood for a stepmom, you might expect Taylor, August, and Allie Brooks to love country music. But Trisha is proud that the girls embrace all kinds of sounds.

“It’s probably kind of odd for our children to be in a house with two country artists,” she told Parade magazine, “but we’ve never said this is what you need to listen to because this is what we do.”

Trisha said the teen girls have “real varied taste in music,” but they definitely don’t mind the sounds that made their parents famous.

“They love Taylor Swift of course, but I still love it when we’re in the car and an old country song comes on the radio and they know it. It makes me happy.”

As the author of Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma Kitchen: Recipes from My Family to Yours, family meals are a big priority for the singer. But she admits that as Garth’s daughters grow, it’s “sometimes hard to eat together.”

“It’s more like, ‘Here’s what’s going on today, who can make dinner?’ But we really eat home a lot and enjoy eating home cooked meals.”

Jamie Oliver Offers Eating Advice

Jamie Oliver

With Jamie Oliver for a dad, you’d expect Poppy Honey and Daisy Boo to have healthy appetites.

Jamie said the secret is that his daughters “got used to trying loads of new things when they were younger, so they got a taste for different flavors and textures.”

He concedes that “it’s harder as kids get older,” but adds that parents shouldn’t give up on fussy eaters.

“If you persevere and don’t get upset if they won’t try new things the first time, eventually most kids will get into new tastes.”

What great advice!

David Arquette Cooks for Coco

July 5, 2008 by lkatulka

David Arquette loves cooking for his daughter Coco, and it’s not hard to see why! The four-year-old has a very healthy appetite and is always appreciative of what Daddy prepares!

“She’s a really good eater!” the proud father told People at the Boys and Girls Club in Venic California. He was there on Wednesday serving meals to needy kids. “She’ll eat vegetables - she loves broccoli and shrimp and chicken. [And] she likes Honey Nut Cheerios.”

Coco’s mom Courtney Cox-Arquette is busy through the week, but David doesn’t mind too much because it gives him some extra daddy-daughter time.

“I always typically cook breakfast, because we hang out in the morning a lot,” he said.

On the weekend David caters for the whole family by firing up the grill.

“My barbecue tends to be a little spicy,” he said. “[Coco] doesn’t like spicy things.” But “my barbecue corn she does [like]!”

Sounds like David is quite the chef!

Giada de Laurentiis Gushes About Jade

June 3, 2008 by lkatulka

TV chef Giada De Laurentiis is loving her latest role as mother to nine-week-old daughter Jade Marie. She gave People magazine the lowdown at the Kidstock Music and Arts Festival.

“She smiled for first time yesterday. It sounds so corny – and I remember my friends telling me and me being like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah,’ but it’s so special. Especially when you’re sleep deprived and all you do is change poopy diapers, it’s so great to get something in return,” she said.

In fact, the smile made such an impression on Giada that she told her husband Todd Thompson to keep his eyes on their daughter, just in case she did it again!

“I was telling my husband before I left, you have to make sure to watch her all day, because she will give you the biggest smile when you least expect it.”

So does a chef cope with preparing food for a little one? Apparently she finds the experience inspiring, because she plans to include a baby/toddler section in her next cookbook!

“People have been asking me for years to come up with kids’ recipes and doing all that because I have a lot of kids that watch the show. And I’m thinking, ‘I’m not a mom, not my thing, leave that to the moms.’ And now, I’m so into it!”

You’d expect Jade would be Giada’s taste tester, but that’s not so. Apparently husband Todd is her favorite guinea pig.
“[He's] like, ‘No more puréed food, thank you very much!’ Because I try all the recipes out on him first, so then we’ll see if Jade likes them.”

Poor Todd!
