Jada Pinkett Smith’s “Wild Child”
June 23, 2009 by lkatulka
Willow Smith is “a wild child” just like her mama Jada Pinkett Smith! Jada says the eight-year-old’s fearless nature helped her overcome a phobia of her own!
While Jada has “always loved snakes,” that admiration came with its fair share of trepidation. But Willow changed all that, with the help of her pet snake Beauty.
“She’d go into the pet store and pick it up and wrap it around her,” Jada recalled. “I’d never touched a snake before, and I put out my hand, and Beauty [mimics the snake slithering up her arm]. I’ve been in love with her ever since. I said to Willow, ‘You did Mommy a big favor. You helped me overcome a fear.’”
But Willow isn’t the only one following in her mom’s footsteps, with Jada spotting part of herself in all her children.
“I see myself in Willow and Jaden – and in Trey, and he’s not even my biological child!” Jada added, “It’s amazing because you can see the most beautiful parts of yourself in your children. That’s what I love most. When I look at my kids, I go, I hope to God they don’t get my ugly parts. Get your own ugly stuff, not mine!”
Willow and Jaden are Jada’s children with husband Will Smith. Trey is Will’s child from a previous marriage.
Star Families at Madagascar 2 Premiere
October 27, 2008 by lkatulka
The stars of Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa brought their families along to the Los Angeles premiere on Sunday.
Chris Rock was outnumbered by the ladies in his life. That’s his wife Malaak Compton and daughters Lola Simone and Zahra Savannah.
Willow Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith both lent their voices to the movie, and they spent a little girly time together at the premiere.
Of course Will and Jaden Smith weren’t too far behind!

Stars Get Into the Halloween Spirit for AIDS Charity Event

Some of our favorite stars donned their fancy dress outfits at the 15th Annual Dream Halloween to Benefit Children Affected by AIDS Foundation event.
Little Ava Priestley was throroughly annoyed by her cute hat! Daddy Jason Priestley and mom Naomi Lowde-Priestley were happy to smile for the cameras though!
I’ve always thought Jada Pinkett Smith was a superwoman, and now here’s proof! She attended the event with a very gothic looking Willow Smith!

Mini Stars in Madagascar 2
September 25, 2008 by lkatulka

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is a real family affair. Not only do Jada Pinkett-Smith and Ben Stiller reprise their roles, but their kids got in on the act too!
The role couldn’t have come at a better time for Willow Camille Reign, who played little Gloria. Jada said her daughter was fascinated by the process of animated films, and the part allowed her to “come in, do some lines, and she got to see the process for herself, rather than telling her.”
Willow handled the experience like a pro, but Ben Stiller said his three-year-old son Quinlan and six-year-old daughter Ella were “sort of wary of the situation.” He said Ella enjoyed “making sounds” but Quinlan became “a little intimidated by the microphone and the whole thing.”
Ben’s thrilled his kids are in the movie, but he’s glad they’re not seasoned pros.
“I was happy that they weren’t like, sort of, getting up there and going like, all Shirley Temple or something.”

Jada Pinkett Smith Talks Parenting
August 29, 2008 by lkatulka
Jada Pinkett Smith admits that her mini-celebrity kids are exposed to a lot of the adult world at a very young age. But she’s determined that Willow, Jaden, and Trey will stay on the straight and narrow.
She’s particularly concerned by the messages her boys receive through hip-hop music and films.
“I think as mothers, with the music and the media out there, we really have to sit our boys down and tell them, ‘That is not okay,’” she told Capitol File Magazine. She said she hopes “to teach my sons a different thought process when it comes to how they view women.”
The negative media messages girls get also make life difficult, and Jada admits she has “to constantly reassure my daughter that she is beautiful.”
Jada’s also raising her children to understand both parents share the responsibilities inside and outside the home.
“It’s funny because I remember telling my kids, ‘Mommy isn’t going to be doing any more movies this year.’ You know what they said? ‘But how are we going to pay the bills?’ It was cute, but more important, they see a household where both parents contribute.”
It sounds like those kids are managing to stay grounded despite the industry they’re in. But with great parents like Will Smith and Jada, it’s not hard to see why!
