Young Jaden Smith looked cool as a cucumber at yesterday’s press conference for The Day the Earth Stood Still in Tokyo, Japan. Jaden’s parents were back in the United States, but it didn’t seem to worry this talented 10-year-old!

Jaden Christopher Syre Smith has been accompanying his parents to red carpet events for years, but it’s a little different now the son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith is in the spotlight.

At Tuesday’s premiere of his latest film The Day the Earth Stood Still, Jaden said their advice has helped him perfect his craft.

“You got to stay true to your character and you just got to be in the moment,” he explained.

Jaden said the role of Jason in the sci-fi film was a challenging one because the character is “depressed all the time … and he’s kind of always sad.” But the 10-year-old enjoyed the experience.

“It was actually really fun on the set and it was even fun during the emotional scenes because I was being in the moment,” says Jaden.

The stars of Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa brought their families along to the Los Angeles premiere on Sunday.

Chris Rock was outnumbered by the ladies in his life. That’s his wife Malaak Compton and daughters Lola Simone and Zahra Savannah.

Willow Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith both lent their voices to the movie, and they spent a little girly time together at the premiere.

Many parents may worry about their children getting involved in the unpredictable and often cruel world of acting. But not Will Smith. He loves to see budding actors Jaden and Willow succeed.

“[Acting is] what we do for a living, so I mean there is nothing in this world that I know more about than making movies,” Will explained to 3 News.

“If my kids wanna do that it’s a perfect opportunity for me to be a successful parent. So for me it’s, it’s almost perfection.”

Will is also dad to 15-year-old Trey.

Jada Pinkett Smith admits that her mini-celebrity kids are exposed to a lot of the adult world at a very young age. But she’s determined that Willow, Jaden, and Trey will stay on the straight and narrow.

She’s particularly concerned by the messages her boys receive through hip-hop music and films.

“I think as mothers, with the music and the media out there, we really have to sit our boys down and tell them, ‘That is not okay,’” she told Capitol File Magazine. She said she hopes “to teach my sons a different thought process when it comes to how they view women.”

The negative media messages girls get also make life difficult, and Jada admits she has “to constantly reassure my daughter that she is beautiful.”

Jada’s also raising her children to understand both parents share the responsibilities inside and outside the home.

“It’s funny because I remember telling my kids, ‘Mommy isn’t going to be doing any more movies this year.’ You know what they said? ‘But how are we going to pay the bills?’ It was cute, but more important, they see a household where both parents contribute.”

It sounds like those kids are managing to stay grounded despite the industry they’re in. But with great parents like Will Smith and Jada, it’s not hard to see why!

Will Smith’s sons Trey and Jaden Christopher Syre attended the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday night. The boys were there to cheer on their famous father, who took home the award for best actor in a horror/thriller.
