While many view parenthood as an equal partnership, Maggie Gyllenhaal insists that there’s no such thing!

“It’s a good effort to make, but I don’t think splitting parenting equally is possible,” she told the latest issue of American Baby. Maggie and her husband Peter Sarsgaard to “do our best to share duties” when it comes to their 2 ½-year-old daughter Ramona, but that nothing replaces a mother’s love!

“The mom is the mom — there’s something about that,” she beamed.

The family of three enjoy life in new York City, but some aspects of life in the Big Apple leave a little to be desired!

“I can’t lift the stroller down the subway stairs by myself, so sometimes I walk ten blocks to the station with an elevator,” she explained. And Maggie can’t even think of changing trains with little Ramona in tow!

“I don’t know why it has to be so hard,” she wonders.

Maggie is a staunch supporter of breastfeeding, and recommends mothers take care of themselves as well as the baby after giving birth. She says drinking plenty of water and taking a daily nap can make a world of difference.

“You’ve just been through something that’s incredibly hard on your body. Let yourself feel scared and overwhelmed — those feelings are okay,” she counseled.

Maggie has plenty of advice, but says that above all moms should trust their instincts.

“I couldn’t make ‘crying it out’ work, but everyone’s different.”

Who needs a shopping cart when you’ve got a stroller? New mom Naomi Watts left little Samuel at home and stepped out with her big boys in New York City yesterday.

With one-year-old Alexander happy to sit in daddy Liev Schreiber’s arms, the stroller was free to carry the family’s Whole Foods groceries. They also stopped out for lunch before returning home.

Hugh Jackman showed he’s not afraid to be a little silly, giving his three-year-old daughter Ava an airplane ride in New York City yesterday.

It’s just that combination of superhero strength and fatherly fun that saw him voted the sexiest man alive!

Three-year-old Matilda Ledger and her mom Michelle Williams looked like two peas in a pod yesterday as they took a walk in Brooklyn. The cute duo, wearing matching ugg boots, went for coffee then met up with one of Michelle’s friends.

The mommy-daughter pair have just returned to their native New York after spending a few weeks in Los Angeles. While they were there Michelle attended the Independent Spirit Awards and Matilda enjoyed time with her grandparents. The late Heath Ledger’s father and mother were in town from their native Australia to attend the Oscars, where Heath was honored with the best supporting actor award for his role in The Dark Knight. Matilda will receive his statue when she turns 21.

Nicole Richie and baby Harlow Madden weren’t going to let the winter chill and a few drops of rain spoil their plans.

With a big umbrella and some snuggly woollen coats and hats Nicole and her one-year-old cutie were ready for a spot of apartment shopping in New York City. I wonder whether the twosome found their dream home?
