Maya Rudolph Plans Saturday Night Live: The Next Generation!
July 4, 2009 by lkatulka
Considering the Saturday Night Live baby boom, could there be a next generation series in the works? Former SNL star Maya Rudolph wants to make it happen, with her three-year-old daughter Pearl Bailey, along with Ana Gasteyer’s youngsters (Frances, 7, and a 15-month-old son whose name has not been released, Tina Fey’s three-year-old daughter Alice, and Amy Poehler’s eight-month-old son Archie.
“If all those babies got together, that would be a trip. I’m sure Lorne [Michaels] is already all over it. ‘We’re looking at 2012 …’”
Maya credits Ana Gasteyer for starting the baby trend with the birth of her eldest child, Frances.
“She made it look so easy … I thought I was next, and I was, but I wasn’t telling anybody in my first trimester.”
But before Maya could share the news that she was pregnant, Tina Fey stole her thunder!
“Tina came into my dressing room, and she was like, ‘I have something to tell you. I’m pregnant.’ So weird.”
Maya thinks fondly of her time on the comedy series, and said if not for motherhood she’d probably still be there!
“If I could work on Saturday Night Live for the rest of my life, I absolutely would. But I was torn between, like, actually being a parent and being able to get up with my child in the morning, and staying up every night until 8 or 10 in the morning … eventually, you know, you have to get some sleep.”
Now she’s busy thinking about playdates with her former costars, including Tina Fey and Alice. The pair “did get together once, but they were so small … They weren’t even making eye contact yet, just wriggling around like bald-headed beauties. Now it would be a different world.”
Maya and her director husband Paul Thomas Anderson expect their second child, a delivery surprise, in early November.

Tina Fey’s Little Sesame Street Fan
April 28, 2009 by lkatulka
Tina Fey made her mark with Saturday Night Live, and now stars in the award-winning sitcom 30 Rock. But her three-year-old daughter Alice is much more impressed by her mama’s latest role in the new Sesame Street DVD Elmo and the Bookaneers!
Alice is “in love with Elmo,” Tina told Parents magazine, and she also likes Murray. The tiny fan visited her mom on the movie’s set, but it wasn’t quite the happy experience you might expect!
“She met Elmo and Oscar, though she was less than two at the time and a little scared of Oscar — but she got her photo taken inside his trash can.”
Just as Alice is “starting to” realize her mom is famous, Tina is “trying to figure out how to downplay it.”
“I want her to know that to be famous is not really important and not a sign of any kind of merit. But I do like her coming on the set and seeing how different jobs work and that people have different roles in making the show.”
Right now Alice is a regular visitor to the 30 Rock set after preschool.
“Just recently, she started to sit on the set and yell ‘action’ and ‘cut,’” Tina shared.
Perhaps she’s a little director in the making!

Baby the Only Good Bit, Says Tina Fey
July 27, 2008 by lkatulka
Being a mom is tough work – just ask Tina Fey! Just like most busy mommies she knows the only reward is her baby, two-year-old Alice Zenobia.
“The diapers are not great, the hours are dreadful … the baby is the only good part,” she joked.
But Tina definitely doesn’t take her ability to be a mom for granted.
“I personally got very lucky. I got a baby under the wire - that’s how I like to say it. I was 35 and I know I’m very, very lucky.”
As she has never struggled with fertility issues, she said it was “hard to imagine” some of the emotions felt by her Baby Mama character, who uses a surrogate to have a child. But she still found some inspiration from her own experiences.
“I was able to remember the feelings of mid-30s baby lust that kind of overtakes you and surprises you, and then the fear that it’s not going to work out,” she says.
